The competition brief has been amended according to the results of discussions with international organizations. The composition of the jury was also broadened. 

The amended competition brief has been approved by the International Union of Architects, the National Union of Architects of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, and the Department for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Kyiv City State Administration.

At a meeting of the National Organizing Committee on preparation and holding of events in connection with 75th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy chaired by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Boris Lozhkin decided to officially support of the competition.

Official launch of the Open International Architectural Ideas Competition for a holistic structuring and integration of Babyn Yar – Dorohozhychi Necropolis, a historical and memorial area in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The competition program was officially approved by the Department for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Kyiv City State Administration.

The competition program was officially approved by the International Union of Architects (Paris).


December 22, 2015

The competition program was reviewed by the National Union of Architects of Ukraine jointly with professionals from the Institute of Landmark Preservation Studies at the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the Kyiv Research and Methodology Center of Protection, Restoration, and Use of Historical, Cultural, and Natural Landmarks.

The competition program was well received by the discussion participants and received the official approval of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine. The materials and recommendations provided as a result of the meeting were incorporated into the program.

The competition received official endorsement of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.


December 19, 2015

A second public hearing was held in the Co-working Media HUB to discuss the competition objectives and its program.

Participants included experts in the history of Kyiv, architects, developers, NGO representatives, employees of the National historical-memorial preserve “Babyn Yar”, engaged Kyiv residents.

Representatives of the competition organizational committee presented the competition concept and program, answered the audience's questions and participated in the discussion. Suggestions voiced by the discussion participants were taken into account in subsequent versions of the program.


December 1, 2015

The first public hearing on the competition objectives and its program was held at the  for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Kyiv City State Administration.

Participants included experts in the history of Kyiv, architects, archaeologists, NGO representatives, employees of the National historical-memorial preserve “Babyn Yar”, engaged Kyiv residents.

Representatives of the competition organizational committee presented the competition concept and program, answered the audience's questions and participated in the discussion. Suggestions voiced by the discussion participants were taken into account in subsequent versions of the program.


November 26, 2015

Draft competition program was discussed at a meeting of a working group at the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance tasked with matters pertaining to further development of the memorial area at Babyn Yar.

The discussion participants (both those who were present and those who have sent in their contributions) included professionals from the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, the Institute of History of Ukraine at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ivan Kuras Institute of Political and Ethno-national Studies  at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies, the National Historical-Memorial “Babyn Yar” Preserve, the Museum of Kyiv history.

The competition's objectives and program were well received by the participants. All the suggestions and experts' comments were taken into account in subsequent versions of the program.
